Can you answer me for one questions? What does summer means for you? Sea, sun, rest, beaches, sleep till noon, noisy and crazy nights? I want to tell you about other way haw to spend your summer and make it unusual, interesting and unbelievable. I want to add only one thing if you don’t like risk, adventure, and difficulties of this unpredictable life just stop reading my story because it is just not for you.
My summer 2011 I spent in United State of America, state Alaska. Now it is sounds so unbelievable, because I even could not imagine that one day I visit USA.
It has been almost half a year seen we came back from Alaska but I have such feeling like it is all happened yesterday. I want to share with you my impressions about absolutely different world which is call Alaska.
Describing my feelings I decided to wrote positive and negative sides of my summer adventure. I had really bed first impressions about Alaska maybe because we spent all night in Seattle airport waiting for plane to Sitka. After sleepless night we finally arrived to Sitka which met as with cold rain and wind. Frankly speaking after such horrible flight I thought that all my summer would be like this flight but when I saw amazing nature of Sitka I changed my mind. I even could not describe you that beautiful mountain which are covered with forest and small clean town Sitka, which is look like time never touched it. Sitka is still keeping it history in Indian totem pole und Russian small buildings. It was my first impressions about Alaska – firstly little disappoint and then absolutely admiration of this land.
When we arrived to Silver Bay Seafood the first thing what we had it was excursion on the plant, after excursion Mandy – our manager show us the place where we had to live this place called “bunkhouse”. Exactly from this moment started our summer in Alaska. First two weeks we didn’t do any work because salmon season started only in the end of June. This two weeks helped us to see beautiful lakes (near the plant was three lakes – Heart Lake, Blue Lake and Beaver Lake), wild animals such as bears, eagles, see lions, while. During the day we explored new places and mountain tracks. Every evening guys made a huge bonfire exactly here we all met and knew each other. This bonfire place became for us more than just fire because here created a new friendship and love, here always was funny, happy and easy, here you were absolutely free.
After two weeks of the rest and relax hard working day were started. The fish processing didn’t stop even for a second and we all had been working for 16 hours per day without any day off. I had been working at the headline which is called Fish House here workers graded fish and then sent it to the fridge. Frankly speaking first two weeks of work were very hard for me because for sleep we had only 5 or even 4 hours, my legs and arms were swollen. Sometimes I wanted to give up but when 1 month of work are passed we started work with fun. Our supervisor Lenin switched on a music for us and then everything became more easy and funny. Can you imagine such situation when all plant song “Macarena” – now I can! I think Silver Bay Seafoods is seen everything – anger, disappoint, happiness, tears, friendship and love.
People with whom I worked at the plant became for me more than just acquaintances, they became for me a large family, and each one takes a place in my heart and my memory. Such was my summer in Alaska, from one side it was very hard and from the other beautiful and happy. I would like to add that hard work is totally forgotten, and now I have only pleasant memories about plant, bonfire, night walks till the morning, and the people who made this summer unforgettable.
